Sometimes you have to work late at the office. Not many still work a regular 9-5 job anymore. So a couple days a week I work from 10:00am to 7:00pm, getting home usually around 8:00pm. I’m wiped by the end of the day, and have very little interest in taking the time to make any sort of dinner, which is why I keep an assortment of snacks in my office, including protein bars, a bag of almonds and turkey jerky. It’s a quick fix that prevents me from a) the bitchiness that ensues when I reach a certain hunger level, b) passing out and c) eating my own arm. If I load up on that stuff, I’m satiated enough to safely drive by McDonalds and Baskin & Robbins without making a stop. I’d call that a serious win. However, it’s not exactly a proper meal. So when I finally walk through my front door ready to collapse, and see that my husband has prepared a delicious meal of steak, roasted squash and Brussel sprouts, alongside a homemade salad of chopped tomatoes, onions and avocado in a sesame seed dressing, THAT CHANGES EVERYTHING! I had to clean up, of course, because ‘them’s who cook do not clean’ in our house. But it was totally worth it. It was the best meal I’ve had all year!
