NEAR MISS – When you’ve just parked your car and start to open the door when a car comes flying into the spot beside you, nearly taking out your door. You see him and immediately yank your door closed, realizing that you didn’t look before you opened the door. I mean, what are the odds that someone is going to park in the spot that was empty ten seconds ago? But it turns out okay. Collision avoided. You’re both okay and the cars are okay. So you look at each other and smile at the near miss. You crack a joke about nearly taking him out. You tell each other to have a great day and go on about yours, smiling at the fact that no one had to yell, no middle finger was raised, and realize that humans do have the capacity for kindness and compassion even in the face of a potential accident.
